Other People's Photos

I admit I love looking at other peoples photos - I know most people find them boring but me I love them. I once spent an entire day looking at my sisters photo albums and there were loads of them but to me fascinating.
I also love looking at photos in books and magazines. I can't get enough pf photographs - but here are my problems with other people's photos

1. In this age of internet social networking places like Facebook are great for seeing what people have been up to by browsing their photos - however, it really annoys me when people upload their photos without bothering to roate images taken in portrait format and upload them still in landscape - whether this is because they can't be bothered to sit there and adjust them OR they don't know how to. However, I for one am fed up of getting a crick in my neck when I'm looking. So now I just skip past them and that is a shame as I am probably missing some great images.

AND

2. I was looking at some photos of worcester Cathedral taken by a friend of mine and as I was looking at them I kept thinking about how I would have taken that image, maybe getting in closer to capture the detail. or maybe a different angle, not that I am saying my photos would be any better, just that I could see more images within the images that had been already taken - is this a bad thing? I don't think so. It just means that years of taking photos means I see things differently, also it encourages me to get out and take more photos - although popping into Worcester isn't really an option at the mo. Though I might go back for a visit soon.

So people PLEASE turn your photos the right way it only takes a second and my neck will thank you.

But please don't ever stop taking photos for me to look at!

More from Newport

The Photos are building up...

Yes not only have I more of Newport to upload here, yesterday, after Sunday Lunch off we went to Maesycwmmer to photograph the old railway viaduct - simply stunning views of the valleys - sadly there aren't that many viaducts left, some bright spark in local government decided the best thing to do would be to demolish them. However the one at Maesycwmmer survives as part of the Celtic Trail a beautiful walk along the old mine railways. So fortunately it is still there in all its glory. It truly is amazing how these things were built without modern cranes and machinery.
However, it was all high up and hilly and I had an asthma attck so instead of tweaking the photos last night I spent the evening asleep as it wore me out. I did manage to get the pix on the PC ready. And as soon as I have time will sort and upload them - I was so bad I didn't even look at them on the monitor like I would normally.
Will try and get them and the rest of the Newport pix up before the weekend as I'm hopefully off to Penalta this weekend for some more shooting.
Remind me to go and get some more memory cards before my holiday

Ever had one if those days....

When you fell pretty darn useless - well that was me today. I went into work for a couple of hours get a bit of overtime in so I can buy a macro lens. It was a nice morning when I left so I tool my camera with me thinking I might take a few photos down by the riverfront in Newport Centre.
As I left I thought 'what's the point all my pictures are crap, no one reads the blog (if you do please follow and comment) why do I bother?' You see this whole digital thing is a bit of a mystery and I'm learning as I go along.
Anyway one of the guys I work with was having a smoke as I left and he asked if I was off to take pix and I said yes he thn said I've seen some of your pics on facebook some are really good which made be feel great. He likes me loves B&W so I was pretty encouraged to carry on - so I did. I really enjoyed my a walk around and want to get out in Newport and take some more soon. Anyway will post some pix of Newport here as soon as I've played with them a bit.
Maybe I'll go out after lunch on Sunday!

The last week - what happened?

Well last week I was laid up with a virus - I was constantly giddy - which meant no going out at all, no work, no driving, no photography.
Now I am feeling better and the weather from my office window is looking fab. I finish at 4 today so you never know and I am off tomorrow on a rest day, however, tomorrow they have scheduled rain. I wonder. I hope not coz I would quite like to take a walk around Risca/Newport and take some photos. However if it rains badly I guess I could go back to the great scanning project - only the black & white negs to go - however there are quite a few of them still to do. Let's see what the weather brings tomorrow
