Arnos Vale - More Photos

Contrary to popular belief, and despite the fact the majority of graves that are posted from Arnos Vale are old, the truth is the Vale is still a working cemetery. The chapels still carry out services and there are still a few burial plots available.

Information can be found on their website by clicking HERE

What I think is wonderful is that you can even get married at Arnos Vale, either in the Anglican Chapel or in the Spielman Centre, which is licensed for Civil marriages or partnerships!
This is great news for Taphophiles like myself. How wonderful to have the momuments such as the Raja's tomb as a backdrop in your wedding photos!!!

Unfortunately I have a boyfriend who thinks cemeteries are morbid, so he wouldn't get married there - oh well I guess I'm not getting married any time soon then.
Information on wedding services can be found on the website click HERE for details.

More from the Vale

There are many interesting graves and monuments in Arnos Vale and every single one of them tells a story. Next time I visit I think I will make a note of some of the names and see if I can find out anything about them.

Here are some more photos from my last visit

Famous Forties Fayre - Risca

So, I am taking a break from the photos I have had sitting on the hard drive for a while to post a little about Risca's annual fayre - always fun with great music, and this year was no exception. This year there was a 1940's flavour to the event ans entertainment was provided by the fabulous Siren Sisters.

All I can say is if you love the Forties and a group which sings in close 3 part harmony you are going to love these girls.

These shots were taken yesterday during their performance. And I enjoyed it so much I am hoping to go see their Christmas show this year.

The little white spider in the garden

Well I know I have been quiet lately on both blogs, but this is mainly due to the heat. It has been too hot to do anything - I'm not really one for hot weather, I prefer the winter myself, although the days have been lovely and sunny and it would be possible to go out and take photos it has been almost 30 degrees - too hot for me I am afraid. I have also done a bit of overtime this week - so not only was I tired because of the heat, I was also tired of the over time.

Anyway going back to when it was a little cooler - a few weeks ago my Dad spotted this little fella on one of the  Alums

Misty - the most beautiful dog in the world!

If every there was a happy little dog it is Misty (except when she has had a bath and then she sulks)
She has such a pretty face. I never tire of taking pictures of her - here are 2 more

The empty canal

The last time we went for a walk along the canal from 14 locks to Newport - part of the canal was empty and it was very strange looking into the canal bed and there being no water there at all. - along way from it's heyday when the barges were used to carry coal from the pits to Newport.

Still in certain places there was still water.

Fingers crossed that this weekend the weather will be good and I will be able to get out and take a load of new photos to share- I still have more of flowers, the dog and of Arnos Vale, but I need to get out there and take more!
