The last from Risca Old Cemetery... for now

Well here are the last cemetery photos for the time being. I am sure I will be visiting some cemeteries in the future and when I do I will post pictures from them - but now it's time for a break, I have lots of flower photos to share with you, as well as photos from my travels on this Bank Holiday weekend - for now at least it's back to the editing.

See you soon!

Risca Old Cemetery again

So we are getting near the end of this set of photos - only one more post to go then it is back to flowers in the garden. This weekend is a bank holiday and I am hoping to get out and about with the camera again - this time there will be no cemeteries.

I will still photograph one if I come across one and then post the photos but I am not going out this weekend to specifically take grave shots, but more on that later.

Risca Old Cemetery

As you know (extremely well by now, I'm sure) I love taking photos in cemeteries. Well Risca Old Cemetery is the nearest one to me, only a 5 minute walk up the road, yet the last time I took photos in there was back in 1992 when I was doing a photography course in college.

Opened in 1888 the cemetery is small compared to Arnos Vale or Cathays at only 1.7 hectares.

5 or 10 years ago a lot of the monuments here had either yellow hazard tape around them or they had been toppled by the local council as they were thought to be dangerous.
Today only one or two graves had hazard signs on them, those thought to be dangerous have had the op parts removed and placed to the side or in front of the graves.

Although the small chapel has been closed for some time and there are now new burial spots in the cemetery the council are planning to refurbish it as a chapel of rest as there is still a Garden of Rest in use here.

I try only to photograph the oldest of graves out of respect of the families of the more recently deceased. Also I think it is nice to read the inscriptions and ponder the lives of those who are laid to rest there.

After all the Egyptians believed 'To say the name of the dead - is to have him live again'

Beautiful Flowers

This year has been a great year for flowers and I have lots of flower images to show you.

Here are 3 that were taken a little while back.

Currently I am waiting for the Sunflowers to come out, they are just starting to open and when they are full I will of course take some photos of them

Cardiff in the Bay

It was a lovely day, when we popped to The Bay to visit with a friend a little while back. I must admit I was a bit of a big kid and had to have a ride on the Carousel as well as an Ice Cream.

There's always plenty to see and do - or eat and drink in the bay if you prefer and it is always worth a visit, and until 1st September there is an Urban Beach - which I have heard is very busy but worth a visit

The last from the Vale for now

I know it has been a long time since I posted and it is not like I have been out taking lots of photos - just been to busy playing Farmville 2 on the laptop - naughty me.

However here are the last few from Arnos Vale for the time being.

Now I, personally have never had any problems taking photos in cemeteries or churchyards, however there are some places that have strict entrance and photo policies - the main thing to remember when in a cemetery is - RESPECT. Respect the people buried in the graves and respect the family members that may visit.

I personally try not to show photos of recent graves - or the names of the people on the recent graves as this may be upsetting to the family. However I myself prefer the older monuments from an architectural point of view - as you can see from the Arnos Vale photos.

If you are thinking of taking some photos in cemeteries I would advise you read up on the etiquette of this hobby. I could write out loads of instructions, however this has been done so many times and all it takes is a little bit of research to fine out the policies of the cemeteries you are thinking of visiting.

Here are some links that have guides to photographing cemeteries:
